    My Thoughts on Abortion

Recently, one of my Facebook friends put up a status saying, “‘abortion doesn’t make you unpregnant, it makes you the parent of a dead baby.’ pro-life.” Another Facebook friend saw this status, and responded with her own status, which said “it literally sends a pain in my stomach when ANYONE trash talks girls who get abortions. you have no idea what you’re talking about.” That status became the beginning of a four hour, 295 comment discussion between 14 different people, myself included. There were opinions voiced, heated back and forth discussions, and, thanks to one immature girl, some threats. However, I don’t think that I got my point across as well as I could have. Therefore, here is my full, unsolicited opinion on Abortion.
When a woman becomes pregnant, a new life begins to form in her womb. Most women become happy and will relish the moment after giving birth when they hold their baby. However, some women aren’t as happy when they become pregnant. Some may have been victims of rape, while others may not be ready to have a baby mentally or financially. Whatever the reason, some of these women chose to not have the baby, and decide to abort it.
Reportedly beginning as early as the 5th Century, Abortion is used to terminate a pregnancy. According to www.abort73.com, there were 1.21 million abortions in the United States in 2008, which was actually a decrease from the 1.39 million in 2001. 84% of these abortions were done to unmarried women, and 50% of the abortions were done on women younger than 25 years old. Some would claim that both of these demographics might have a harder time caring for a baby than women that are older and married. Others might say that these women wouldn’t be able to properly raise the child because of their age and relationship status. Regardless of what people may say, 1.21 million abortions is a lot.
To me, abortion is INSTITUTIONALIZED MURDER. People claim that abortion isn’t murder, which is defined in it’s verbal form as “To kill (someone) unlawfully and with premeditation. Yet, as primitive as they may be, there are living people in the stomachs of these women, taking in nutrients and growing day by day. If terminating the life of what was supposed to be a new human life isn’t murder, than what is?
I’ve heard excuses like “You don’t know what these women are going through” among others. But when was it our right to chose whether someone else could live? I don’t intend to come off as rude or brash, but I don’t care what you may be “going through”, you shouldn’t be allowed to kill your own child to benefit yourself. A baby is a gift from God, because we are supposed to “be fruitful and multiply” (Genesis 1:28). God is the creator of life, and he is the only one allowed to take that life back when it’s their time.
I know that people will be inclined to say “Everybody is entitled to their own opinion”; They would be right, everybody is entitled to voice their own opinion. Issues like this, however, shouldn’t even be an issue. The fact that people think that murder is okay makes me wonder where humanity has gone. If I had to criticize one thing about President Obama’s term, it would be that he kept abortion legalized. I heard one person say in the discussion on Facebook “Would you rather them (women) get abortions by a Doctor, or in a back alley?” To be honest, I would rather them give birth and, if they truly can’t care for the child, give him or her up for adoption. That way, the child still gets the opportunity to see the light of day.
People will say what they want about Abortion. However, there is no way to humanely say that it’s not murder. No human should ever be given the right to chose whether or not an unborn child should have the right to live or not; that choice is up to God.
There are over 3 million people right now who should be taking care of a child.
